Six teams - each student will be assigned to a team.

TEAM PAGES
There will be specific assignments and a chain of command.

Each team will have a:
  • team leader
  • a research topic
  • a shared team research document on the Google Drive that they will put their research on while in the "research & development" (R&D) stage of the project
  • their own team wiki page that they will use to present their final topic research with the class
Team leaders will be responsible for the following:
  • sharing a team research document with their members on their Google DRIVE with EDIT permissions
  • assigning each member a sub-topic to research
  • making sure that each member includes their information in the shared document
  • overseeing the teams progress; guide them and help each member overcome any obstacles
  • make sure you use all your resources; every team should be working on something at all times. If they are done with their assignment, assign them to do something else
  • communicate with me, the teacher, about any outstanding obstacles or project questions
  • overseeing how the team's wiki page will look and what it will include (text formatting, graphics, videos, links, etc.) - this can be assigned to a member of your team if you see fit.

Team members will be responsible for the following:
  • adding their research on the teams shared research document in the form of text, bullet lists, number lists, graphics, etc. Include links to your sources while you work. Your research should NOT include putting links alone. MINIMUM OF THREE (3) SOURCES (not wikipedia) for your information.
  • asking the team leader to help with any questions or problems you might have
  • making sure you continue to make progress and not sit idly; doing nothing.

PROJECT'S GRADING RUBRIC

OVERVIEW OF PROJECT for each member
  • Research information and create an outline in a shared team Google document.
  • Create a presentation in Google Presentation
    • Each member must contribute a minimum of 6 slides NOT INCLUDING the title slide for their topic and works cited slide
    • Use citations and include a Works Cited page at the end of the presentation:See Citation Information page
  • The team's presentation(s) will be uploaded to the team's wiki page for a class presentation.
    • Each member will present their slides when their team presents
    • Minimum of a 2-minute presentation.

BEST TEAM PRESENTATION WILL BE GIVEN EXTRA CREDIT POINTS.

Team 1 = Topic 1 - What is the history of the Internet & the WWW?
  1. Discuss when and how the Internet and World Wide Web began and who was involved in its development. Discuss the first network: ARPA
  2. Discuss the first computer: ENIAC
  3. Discuss when the first personal computers entered the workplace and the home. What company developed the first personal computer and what did it look like, offer and store.
  4. Discuss where a web site can be hosted. Can a person host a web site? If so, explain how. Explain what FTP is and how it relates to web site development. Define client, server, web site hosting companies (give examples) and domain names. Name some free ftp software and show the user interfaces of one.
  5. Discuss when the Internet became available to the public as the World Wide Web. What did the first web page look like? How did it evolve into the web you know today? Show a timeline of new supported media. For example, when did the WWW support graphics/pictures, audio, video, e-commerce, etc.

Team 2 = Topic 2 - How do you create and publish your own website?
  1. Discuss the sequence of events that must take place to designing web site to publishing it on the web. How to make/create your own web site: a beginners guide. Include typical costs.
  2. What software tools are commonly used to create a web site?
  3. What languages are used to create a basic web site? Include the basic "front-end" and languages the can be used to perform "back-end" duties related to forms, e-commerce and databases.
  4. Discuss HTML, give examples of what it looks like (HTML tags) and how to start a basic web page.
  5. Web site hacking: who, how, why and consequences.

Team 3 = Topic 3 - What experts are needed to publish a web site and what makes it successful?
  1. It takes a team of experts with very specific skills to create and support a professional web site. Create a list of job titles and a description of their role in developing a web site and typical software tools that they would use to do their job.
  2. Discuss the principles of an effective web design and what makes a site stand out.
  3. What is Web 2.0 and Web 3.0? Compare and contrast.
  4. Discuss ways a company can market/advertise their web site to get traffic and increase sales. Describe the methods. Discuss Meta Tags and search engines.

Team 4 = Topic 4 - How does the WWW Work?
  1. Describe how the Internet works. When you type in a web site address, what happens to the address behind the scenes so that you get the page you requested on your screen in seconds.
  2. Discuss what a network is and the client-server architecture of the WWW. Give image examples. Define what a client is. Define what a network server is.
  3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a client server network. How can you relate this to your experiences on the WWW?
  4. What will web sites of the future offer? What is the future of the Internet?

Team 5 = Topic 5 - Web Standards & accessibility
  1. Discuss what organization sets the standards for the web? Compare the web in 1990 with today. How has it changed over time? What types of files did it slowing support?
  2. Discuss handicap accessibility and the web. Give examples of people with different handicaps and how they are able to use the web; the blind and quadriplegic. Can you get a video to demonstrate?
  3. How does someone who speaks another language other than English read the web in their language? Show how you can change to another language. What do the keyboards look in other countries that have a different alphabet like Greece and China?
  4. Discuss world internet usages and population statistics and global internet usage. Discuss impact on developing countries.

Team 6 = Topic 6 - Impact of the Internet and the Web
Discus the impact of the Internet and the WWW on the following industries. Discuss how we used to do things in each industry before and after the WWW. Be sure to discuss the positives and negatives/advantages and disadvantages.
  • Personal Communications/Socializing - social media and privacy
  • Education - online or distant learning, student progress, student learning
  • Entertainment (movies, music, video games) - copyright infringement & piracy
  • Business - e-commerce, what will future shopping experiences be like, avatars
  • Government/Politics/Public Safety - include discussion of the NSA

Using Word, PowerPoint, Prezi or other tools, the team leader will put all the parts together into a class presentation. Use appropriate graphics or supportive videos to convey your information.
Each group will post their work to their team wiki and present their findings. We discuss and vote and the most comprehensive presentation. CLICK ON THE Projects link at the top of the page to find your groups page.
